Exploring the Uptake and Impact of the Driving and Dementia Roadmap
Full study title: Dementia and Driving Cessation – Sub Study: Implementation Evaluation of Web-Based Driving and Dementia Roadmap (DDR)
What is the study about?
The decision to stop driving and the experience of transitioning to non-driving is a difficult and complex process for drivers with dementia and their caregivers/care partners. To support people living with dementia and their caregivers/care partners throughout this process researchers developed an online educational resource (toolkit) called the Driving and Dementia Roadmap (DDR) (www.drivinganddementia.ca). The DDR is a collection of resources and tools (e.g., videos, worksheets) with guided access to specific content (e.g., how to talk about driving cessation) with separate portals for people living with dementia, caregivers/care partners and healthcare providers. The researchers are interested in knowing how the DDR is relevant, useful and what impact it may have on how people approach and manage the process of stopping to drive. Participation in this research involves using the DDR for a period of two to four weeks, completing a diary (recording thoughts and impressions of the DDR) and participating in an interview that will last approximately 30 minutes to an hour.
Eligibility- Who can participate?
Participants must be:
- A person living with dementia who is still driving or has stopped driving within the past two years and who speaks English.
Or
- A family member or friend who is caring for or providing support to a person with dementia who is currently driving or has stopped driving within the past two years and who speaks English.
Time requirement
Using and reviewing the Driving and Dementia Roadmap as needed for two to four weeks and participating in an interview that will last approximately 30 minutes to an hour using a virtual platform (Zoom).
