Welcome Acting Division Director for Neurology Dr. Tang-Wai & Farewell Dr. Montalban
About the TDRA, Announcements, TDRA Investigators
The Toronto Dementia Research Alliance would like to congratulate Dr. David Tang-Wai on his recent appointment as the Acting Division Director for Neurology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and bid farewell and best wishes to former Division Director Professor Xavier Montalban.
Dr. Tang-Wai is a long-serving member of our Clinical Research Core, and one of the lead investigators on the Memory Clinics Research Database project. He is an Associate Professor in Neurology and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto, a Co-Director of the University Health Network Memory Clinic and a Clinical Investigator at the Krembil Brain Institute.
For the last several years, Dr. Tang-Wai led the University of Toronto Neurology Training Program as its Director and this year was awarded the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award in the Department of Medicine.
We would like to congratulate Dr. Tang-Wai for this well-deserved teaching award and also for his new leadership appointment. We wish him well as he leads Canada’s largest Neurology faculty and training program, and we look forward to continuing our work together while in his new role.
Sadly, this news also means we will be saying farewell to Professor Montalban, who has found it necessary in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic to step down as Division Director and return to his home institution in Barcelona.
During his time in Toronto, Dr. Montalban was a member of our Planning & Advisory Committee, which benefitted from his international expertise and advice on TDRA strategic matters. He also worked as a Professor in the Division of Neurology at the University of Toronto and as the Medical Director of the BARLO Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Centre at St. Michael’s Hospital.
We would like to thank Dr. Montalban for his support of TDRA and his strategic development of the Division of Neurology. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
