Farewell Vice Dean, Research & Innovation Dr. Hegele & Welcome Dr. Reithmeier

The Toronto Dementia Research Alliance (TDRA) would like to say farewell and best wishes to Dr. Richard Hegele as he retires from the role of Vice Dean, Research & Innovation in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and welcome to interim Vice Dean Dr. Reinhart Reithmeier.
Since 2016, Dr. Hegele has served as the Vice Dean, Research & innovation in the Faculty of Medicine, working to enhance their research administration, collaboration, and commercialization efforts. During this time, Dr. Hegele also served as a Co-Chair of our Planning and Advisory Committee as well as a Co-Chair for the Research Committee of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSNr). He is also a Staff Pathologist at SickKids and a Professor and Researcher in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.
We would like to thank Dr. Hegele for his invaluable support, guidance and expertise as part of our Planning and Advisory Committee, and wish him all the best as he enters into retirement.
As we say farewell to Dr. Hegele, we also welcome Dr. Reinhart Reithmeier as the interim Vice Dean, Research & Innovation. Dr. Reithmeier is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto, teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses. His world-renowned research focuses on better understanding the role membrane proteins play in both human health and disease. He also currently serves as the President of the Royal Canadian Institute for Science.
We would like to congratulate Dr. Reithmeier on this well-deserved appointment and welcome him to the TDRA. We look forward to working together in the near future.
