The Toronto Dementia Research Alliance (TDRA) would like to congratulate all recent recipients of the University of Toronto’s Department of Medicine Awards and Faculty of Medicine Dean’s Alumni Awards. Of those receiving awards, we would like to acknowledge the following TDRA clinician-investigators who we have the privilege of working with in our governance committees and research studies:
Dr. David Tang-Wai was awarded this year’s Department of Medicine Teacher of the Year Award, which adds to his growing number of recognitions for teaching graduate and undergraduate trainees. Dr. Tang-Wai is an active member of our Clinical Research Core and one of the lead investigators on the Memory Clinics Research Database project. He is an Associate Professor in Neurology and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto, and Director of the University Health Network’s Memory Clinic. He has also recently been named the Acting Division Director for Neurology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Paula Rochon was awarded this year’s Eaton Scholar Researcher of the Year Award for her clinical research. Her research focuses on better understanding the needs and challenges facing older adults, particularly women, within our society, and improving healthcare providers and trainees’ knowledge about prescribing medications to older adults with complex conditions. Dr. Rochon is the Vice-President of Research and a Geriatrician at Women’s College Hospital, and a Senior Scientist with the Women’s College Research Institute. She is also a member of our Planning and Advisory Committee, and a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Anthony Lang was the recipient of the 2020 Faculty of Medicine Dean’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Global Impact. This award recognizes his lifetime contributions to both research and clinical care for movement disorders, specifically Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Lang is currently the Director of the Edmond J. Safra Program in Parkinson’s Disease and the Morton and Gloria Shulman Movement Disorders Clinic at Toronto Western Hospital. He is also a member of our Planning and Advisory Committee, and a Professor at the University of Toronto where he holds the Jack Clark Chair for Parkinson’s Disease Research.
Dr. Catherine Zahn was the recipient of the 2019 Faculty of Medicine Dean’s Lifetime Achievement Award - National/Community Impact. The award recognizes her contributions to integrating mental health care into overall healthcare, and ensuring equitable access to mental health care. Dr. Zahn is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, an active member of our Executive Committee, and a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
