Enhancing Frontal Lobes Plasticity and Function in Patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (PAS-MCI)
What is the study about?
This study is assessing the use of a novel brain stimulation technique called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to determine if it can improve memory and thinking processes in people diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment. We are conducting this experiment to assess whether TMS can strengthen the connection between different cells in the frontal area of the brain that is especially relevant to attention and memory in Mild Cognitive Impairment, a condition that often precedes dementia.
Eligibility–Who can participate?
Participants must:
- Be 60 years of age or older
- Have a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment or be a healthy volunteer
Time requirement:
Participants will undergo treatment sessions that range from 1.5 to 3 hours at CAMH, 5 days a week, over a total of 2 weeks. In addition, participants will complete clinical and cognitive assessments at baseline, after treatment, and again 3 weeks later.
